Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have encountered a variety of interesting independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer includes a protagonist that is truly a dung attempting to navigate to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a jump control. Across one hundred fifty levels, encounter mini-bosses and visit a store to buy skins for your fecal avatar.

Time your movements precisely, since one mistake requires restarting the level. Leap off floating orbs to launch your character higher, navigate fragile surfaces, and activate switches to reveal hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS and use them on tougher game content as gameplay ramps up.

Graphically, the experience features eye-catching stages and a killer background music. Its minimalist art with morphing abstract forms evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's tough to recall other games where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment often featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. Unsurprisingly, such content appears heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, like winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is ready now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on computers this November.
