The buzz about The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
